Headway Theme 2.0.3 Updated!

Here are detailed instructions. It is critical to BACKUP YOUR SITE — that means your FTP files AND your DATABASE – before upgrading. Seriously people! I’m not kidding. Don’t make me come over there and kick your butt. This is the last time you’ll have to upgrade like this guys — after this, all upgrades are automatic.

1. Download Headway 2.0.1 from your Members’ Dashboard

2. Log into your WordPress Dashboard

3. If you are using BackupBuddy (get a discount using code Headway25 if you aren’t, it’s an invaluable tool) take a FULL backup. If you are not using backup buddy and are not going to purchase it, use a tool like WP-DB-Backup to take a backup of your database. Ensure that ALL of the checkboxes for the tables to be included are checked. You will also need to separately take a backup of your theme files via FTP. If you do not know how to do this, please refer to your webhost’s instructions on how to access your site via FTP. Once you have accessed your site, download the entire Headway-166 folder. It will be located under wp-content/themes.

4. Within your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Appearance -> Themes and then click to install a new theme by uploading a .zip file.

5. Don’t activate yet! First, make sure that your custom.css and custom_functions.php files are migrated. Either copy the files to the new directory via FTP under wp-content/themes/headway20 OR copy/paste the content of your files via the Editor under Appearance in the WordPress dashboard.

6. You may also want to open a Text document (not Word!) and copy the content of your easy hooks.

7. Finally, go back to Appearance –> Themes and activate the new version of Headway. Check your site. If anything is missing, make sure that your Easy Hooks, custom.css and custom_functions.php files (if you had custom code there) are all updated. If you receive any errors, please post them in the support forum.
If you are especially concerned about the upgrade, I’d recommend taking your entire WordPress site and Database, backing it up, and restoring to a TEST site — one the same host so server conditions are the same – to see how it goes first.
